十和田市伝統工芸"南部裂織"について

裂き織りとは、布を裂いて横糸、緯( ヌキ )にして織る織物の１つの織り方です。

裂き織りは、布を大切にする女の知恵から生まれました。小さな端布も粗末にすることなく刺し子にしたり、最後には裂いて、経糸（たていと）に麻を張り、緯（ヌキ＝横糸）に裂いた布を織り込んで、夜着、仕事着、帯、前掛けなどにした南部地方の伝統工芸品です。

明治後半から南部では裂織が盛んで、今でも70代、80代の方々は「家にも機があった」「おばあさんが織っていた」と昔語りをしてくれます。
